Well, Coldfission did it so I guess I will too.
    1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Got dreadlocks. Made peace with myself. Continued in a real long-term relationship (well, 2 years is long-term to me). That's probably it. 2009 was not a banner year for SB.

    2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I usually make my new years resolutions simple so I don't feel like a failure at the end of the year. Last years was to dress cuter more often. This year's is the same, but with a twist "less bro, more babe". Also, I wanna lose wieght, but that's a given one for every year.

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
    Eww. I don't know. Probably.

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
    My step-grandfather.

    5. What countries did you visit?
I've never been outside of the US.

    6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Well I will be a college graduate, so I'm looking forward to that. I guess I will be seeking better direction career wise or at least a good job to keep durring grad school. Oh and I guess I want to get settled on a gradute program. I also want a killer body. Superficial me, whatever.

    7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Most days are a drunken happy blur, hopefully 2010 will be the same. I don't wish to get pregnant or get married, so I doubt any dates will shake my foundation in that way.

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Surviving. I'm always suprized and proud of myself when I last another year.

    9. What was your biggest failure?
    Not graduating on time.

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I don't often get sick but OH MAN the "stomach flu"/food poisoning wierdness K and I got was UNREAL. Sick and puking for a WEEK.

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
I have no idea. Pick any of my records, I guess.

    12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I don't get this question, but Kenny always deserves celebration so I'll pick him. Or I guess Chris for graduating! Or Shane for his success in kicking his herion addiction! Yeehaw!

    13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
No one's behaviour makes me depressed or appalled besides my own.

    14. Where did most of your money go?
    Rent, Bills, and Booze. :)

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Probably any number of shows. Seeing Annihiltion Time for the last time.

    16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
YING YANG TWINS WHISPER SONG HAHAHAHAHHA. Goddammit, that was the best drunken 72 hours ever. Can't wait for this summer.

    17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
    i. happier or sadder? I think I'm happier. Or at least just as happy.
    ii. thinner or fatter? FATTER.
iii. richer or poorer? Well, we never have any money but now we have a cool house. So I guess in a sense richer.

    18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Traveled. I wish I'd gotten tattoos and gone out more often. I wish I'd gone to more shows and more parties.

    19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
    Eatting.

    20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Probably the same way I do every year which is driving all over creation to see all mine and kenny's families.

    21. How will you be spending New Years?
Oh, I am so done putting faith in that dumbass holiday. Here's to even making it to midnight.

    22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Fell farther in love and grew within that love. Still learning and still loving.

    23. How many one-night stands?
    Zero.

    24. What was your favourite TV program?
Maury will always and forever be my favorite show and I don't care what you have to say about it. But then again I really did enjoy True Blood and Sons of Anarchy.

    25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't necessarily hate them, but there are a few people I wouldn't mind kicking the crap out of (again.)

    26. What was the best book you read?
New Reads: Hell's Angel by Ralph "Sonny" Barger, Ron Jeremy's autobiography, Skin Trade by Laurel K. Hammilton.
Rereads: A Wrinkle in Time by Madelain L'engle and the whole Anita Blake (LKH) series.

    27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Kimya Dawson. I don't care what you have to say about why she's now famous bc I just then heard her and I love what she has to say. Not anything like my normal cuppa tea, but she's great. My punk bands have all pretty much been the same.

    28. What did you want and get?
    A house and a puppy.

    29. What did you want and not get?
A day job. I hate hate hate working nights.

    30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Avatar was so good, also add Terminator Salvation and Star Trek.

    31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 24 and I was partying at various places in my halloween costume. Kenny got me a bottle of peach Andre champagne (hahaha) and we shared it with friends at midnight. Oh and I drank probably a whole bottle of tequila. Oof.

    32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Neither Kenny or I getting arrested.

    33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Ugh, what fashion? Cutoff shorts, punk shirts made into tank tops, vans. Skater thrash stupid punk fashion.

    34. What kept you sane?
Kenny seriously is a saint because he knows how to handle me.

    35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I love Steve Bucemi and Miles Austin (Cowboy reciever). Obama was cool, too. I like Maury Povich and Anthony Bourdain.

    36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Our black president. Don't even deny that Obama being elected didn't blow your mind at the time!

    37. Who did you miss?
Zach. I'm always and forever going to miss him though.

    38. Who was the best new person you met?
My new boss Josh. Oh man, kid is the bee's knees for real. Makes me laugh through my whole shift.

    39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009?
To take life by the balls and do whatever you want because you ain't getting prettier and you ain't getting younger and it's never going to be any easier.

    40. Quote a song that sums up your year.
FUN FUN FUN THAT'S WHAT WE SAY! FUN FUN FUN WE'RE AWESOME ANYWAY!

Yesterday we drove a couple of hours away to attend
a going away party for a fighter who is being assigned
to Afghanistan. He is a good man with a wonderful household
and giving him a good send off was the least we could do.

I admit I was a little nervous on the drive. I haven't really
attended a big fighter practice or fought people from outside
my area in a long time and I'm really not sure how good my
    skills are.

We arrived at Ioannes' place and there were already several
fighters in armor and more arriving. In fact, fighters arrived
all day so the fighting was pretty continuous until the sun went
down. I armored up and fought a couple of light bouts just to see
how I was doing. I was especially nervous because I still haven't
fully developed my new fighting style so there are still areas I
need to learn to cover or attack from. Ioannes was a special
challenge because he is a fast lefty and I haven't fought a lefty
yet. I did leave my right leg out a bit too much and he tagged it
until I figured out how to compensate and then I was able to sit
back and watch his movements. I won most of those fights.

I fought several fighters, ranging from pretty new/rusty to Duke
Aaron. And I have to admit I'm pretty happy with my overall
performance. I won far more than I lost and when I faced Aaron I
not only held my own but won several bouts. I will be vain enough
to say that he may have taken it easy on me the first fight but
I don't think the rest of them were him screwing around. I sure
know that I wasn't. It's funny because there were several people
milling around the house but when we went on the field someone
announced, "Gunthar's fighting Aaron!" and they all crowded the
windows to watch. From my view it was a glorious series of fights
and a hellova lot of fun. He was able to tag my leg pretty
frequently and the last bout he snuck a leg shot in that I partially
blocked but that only resulted in the tip achieving Mach 8 and
smacking my left buttcheek with one of those "hot iron" impacts.
The bruise is quite spectacular. So much so that I was paid a
quarter by Baroness Gwyneth to show my ass-cheek to the crowd.

By that time I was tired and my breastplate was chafing around my
neck pretty badly so I downarmored. Aaron fought all freaking
day and never seemed to get tired. I wanna be him when I grow up.

I'm really happy about my squire, Alejandro. For years he was
almost a joke of a fighter. His style was wooden, no aggression,
no flow and he always kind of scrunched himself up when he fought.
He has made a dedication to fighting and trains constantly. After
months of pounding he has come to realize that using his height
(he's 6'5") is okay and he will still be respected as a fighter
with skill. We had to convince him that it is not only okay but
desired for him to hit hard. He's become aggressive and his shot
flow has improved greatly. Many people were both impressed and
surprised by his fighting. He's worked hard and overcome some huge
mental blocks and is finally on the road to become a "professional"
fighter. I expect great things to come from him.

It was a grand send off for Ioannes and he deserves it.
Congratulations on the new red belt. Don't wear it in the field.
    Stay safe.

The Obligatory End of Year report.
Facebook is far too easy. You just post a couple of sentences and you are done. LJ means you have to actually
write something so I don't update as much as I should.

But, this being New Year's Eve and all that rot I guess I should post a "This is the year that was." report.

I do have to say it was a very interesting year. I was Crown for the first part of it. Being Crown was one
of the best and worst experiences I've had in a while. Some people love to be Crown and become greater.
It kind of exhausted me. I'm a bit shy around people anyway and especially in the SCA. So having to be
"On" and be what people wanted a King to be was tough. Working for the good of my People was also
tough. Because everything we did we did for the Populace, whether they agreed with it or not.

There were some wonderful times as Crown and I hope we did a good job. I know there are people who worked
to make life very difficult for us but all we can say is that we tried to do the best job possible for the People of
Ansteorra. Sometimes I want to do it again and others I want to run screaming in the other direction. We'll just
    see what the future holds.

I became a Duke. That's something I had kind of given up hope for. Now let's see if I can live up to THAT.

We took some time off over the summer and just focused on us. It was nice. We toured the Northeast and
saw sights that I've never visited before. We got to know Boston at the ground level. Saw beautiful Fall
scenery. Became friends with chipmunks and wild turkeys, developed a love of cider doughnuts, visited the
Ben & Jerry's plant, found the beautiful and wonderful city of Keene, NH. And learned to really appreciate
the joy of just being home with the cats.

Finally, we have a house. It is the first house that either of us have ever had and it is more beautiful and
nice than I ever expected to be able to call "home". We are excited and daunted but we already love it.

Of course, I don't want to be TOO in love with the place because I'm not a Texan and don't want to be.
I need my mountains and cool weather. I want to live where my soul is at peace and it ain't here. Someday
I'll go home. But the house is a pretty good consolation prize so far.

We made new friends, lost some old ones. Learned to trust and to watch our backs. Experienced fulfillment and
disappointment. Balancing the year, there was some very bad and some very good but overall I'll give this
review of it being a really good year.

I hope 2010 is a wonderful year for all our friends. From the looks of things right now, we could all use one.
